What is Child Day Care?
Early childhood is the most rapid period of development in a human life. Although individual children develop at their own pace, all children progress through an identifiable sequence of physical, cognitive, and emotional growth and change. The Child Development approach is based on the proven fact that young children respond best when caregivers use specific techniques designed to encourage and stimulate progress to the next level of development.
The ultimate goal of this Child Day Care Certificate programme is to improve your knowledge and understanding of young children's capacity to develop and learn. A child who is ready for school has a combination of positive characteristics: he or she is socially and emotionally healthy, confident, and friendly; has good peer relationships; tackles challenging tasks and persists with them; has good language skills and communicates well; and listens to instructions and is attentive. A child who is ready for school has less chances of repeating a grade, being placed in special education, or being a school drop-out.

Why should I study Child Day Care?
Obtaining affordable, quality child day care, especially for children under age 5, is a major concern for many parents, particularly in recent years with the rise in families with two working parents. As the need for child day care has increased in the last decade, the child day care services industry began to fill the need of non-relative child care. Throughout the country, parents are desperate to find qualified and knowledgeable Child Day Care Givers. The reality is that very few parents can afford to stay at home to look after their children. Given a choice, most parents would prefer to have their child lovingly looked after by a Child Day Care Giver (or Day-Mother), rather than sending their child to a nursery school or crèche where there will be lots of other children taking up the attention of the teachers.
College SA now offers a one year Certificate Programme in Child Day Care which includes out motivational module, Tactics for Winning, plus three subjects:
- Introduction to Business English;
