What is Private Investigation?
Private Investigation deals with the investigation and furnishing of information, searching for people and property, as well as the conducting of surveillance. A Private Investigator can work in their private capacity or for the benefit of an external client.

Private Investigation: Course Structure
In order to complete The Short Course Certificate: Private Investigation, students will have to complete the following Modules:
- Tactics for Winning
- Report Writing (2 Modules)
- Introduction to Private Investigation (2 Modules)
- Surveillance (1 Module)
- Intelligence (1 Module)
- Entrepreneurship: Start your own PI-business (2 Modules)
Private Investigation: Programme Outcomes
This is the first Module that all students have to complete once they have registered with College SA. This Module is designed to introduce Students to the College. In this Module, you will learn more about how Distance Learning Works and what the best ways are to study to prepare for assessments.
There are two Modules to this component. You will learn about the different types of writing skills for the different investigative purposes. You will also learn how to access, process, re-organise and synthesise information.
- Introduction to Private Investigation (2 Modules)
There are two Modules to this component. You will be given an orientation of the Private Investigation profession, especially with regards to the South African context.
You will learn the principles of surveillance.
You will learn how to use intelligence practices as an investigation tool.
- Entrepreneurship: Start your own PI-business (2 Modules)
There are two Modules to this component. You will be guided through the requirements and processes in order to be able to start a Private Investigation business.
Course Duration
The Short Course Certificate: Private Investigation will take you approximately 12 months to complete.
Entrance Requirements
- The ability to read and write in English.
Assessment and Award
All Students are required to complete Tactics for Winning, and also, to pass all the Multiple Choice Assignments. A pass is any mark of 50% or higher.
On completion of the Short Course Certificate: Private Investigation, you will receive a Certificate of Completion from College SA and Strategic Investigations and Seminars.
