9 Reasons to Earn a Qualification through Distance Education in a Troubled Economy. When the economy is in trouble, many professionals turn to online learning. Here are ten reasons why earning an online degree is a smart way to deal with a recession.
If you don’t plan how and when you are going to study, chances are that you are not making the most of your studies. Every second of planning will be to your advantage. There are no disadvantages when it comes to planning. The more you plan, the more prepared you are. The more prepared you are, the less likely that things will go wrong. It doesn’t matter who you are, what you are studying, where you study and when you study. Planning will help you make the most of your time (and of your other resources, such as money). Creating a personal study timetable means creating a schedule (or to-do list) for your activities for every hour of the day and for every day of the week. This schedule will include all the activities and responsibilities that take up your time, for example:
Going through your study notes;
Summarising your study notes;
Going to the library to do extra research;
Answering any assessment questions or tasks;
Studying for exams;
Doing projects;
Spending time with your family and friends,
Going to work;
Travelling to and from work,
Spending time relaxing;
Doing any household chores.
For your benefit, we have included an example of a blank, personal study timetable in our Downloads section. Please download a copy of this personal study timetable, and, if you can, print out a copy for yourself.
How to Fill in a Personal Study Timetable
I suggest you look at the blank Personal Study Timetable that we have provided for you. Look at it closely. Notice how the Timetable shows every day of the week, as well as the different times of the day. Let’s start by looking at the column for Monday.
Imagine that on a Monday morning, between 6am and 7am, you have to get up and get ready to leave for work. You would then fill in the brief description of that activity in the relevant block.
For example:
Monday:
Time:
Activity
6am - 7am
Get up and & prepare for work
You would then fill in the blocks for the rest of the hours of that day. Start by doing this for just one day. In our example, we are filling in activities for Monday.
Once you have filled in your activities and responsibilities for Monday, you can do the same for the rest of the days of the week.
No two schedules or timetables will look exactly the same because we all have different activities and tasks that take up our time. The most important feature of a personal study timetable is that your timetable allows you to plot (or schedule) your various activities for the hours of the day and for the different days of the week. With your personal study timetable, the objective is for you to look at, and, if necessary, fill in your timetable everyday!
You won’t always be able to stick to your schedule 100% every day – though of course you should try your best to do so. For example, your boss might phone you and insist that you go into work on a Saturday morning to sort out a crisis. A good idea is to schedule time for unforeseen (unplanned events) – however, don’t schedule more than 1 hour a day for these unplanned events - if you do that, you will be ‘eating’ into your time that should be spent on your daily priorities.
No matter how you design your timetable, you need to be able to make sense of the information in the timetable, and be guided by what your requirements for the day are.
Another tip regarding your personal study timetable is that you need to be honest and realistic when you fill it in. Be honest and realistic with yourself – you will know how much time you need to dedicate to your studies (and also to your other responsibilities). If you are struggling with working out how much time to dedicate to your studies, then please contact us and we will be able to help you with this – all our contact details will appear at the end of this Newsletter.
I really want to encourage all of you to try creating and using a personal study timetable. Don’t forget to make sure that your timetable includes reference to every hour (or half hour) of the day. This way, you get to see the broader picture of your day’s responsibilities.

We want to do our very best to supply you with all the information that you need, as well as with plenty of encouragement to assist you in deciding what it is you want to and need to study. Did you know that College SA has a whole group of people called Student Registrars that cannot wait to chat with you? Our Student Registrars are some of the most helpful and friendly people around. It is their job to give you all the information you might need about studying with us. Our Student Registrars are really happy when people phone them and ask them questions about the College.
The Institute of Certified Bookkeepers (ICB) is a professional body for bookkeepers and accountants that has been around for more than 80 years and is recognised internationally. The ICB’s goal is to promote bookkeeping qualifications, and for that reason they conduct professional assessments for students who wish to pursue a career in bookkeeping and accounting. They are affiliated with the International Association of Bookkeepers and the Institute of Financial Accountants in the United Kingdom, which means that ICB membership would also give you the option to register at one of these sister bodies if you were thinking about furthering your career overseas.
Why should I study an ICB course?
The ICB has been accredited by Fasset as a Quality Assurance Partner (QAP), and all its courses are registered on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF). By obtaining any of the ICB qualifications, students are therefore entitled to become ICB members – a very distinguished achievement. If you’re serious about a career in bookkeeping and accounting, a recognised and respected ICB qualification will give you the edge to reach your potential.
What courses does ICB offer?
The ICB’s courses fall into three main programme categories. They are:
1.The Accounting Certification Programmes
The Accounting Certification Programmes consist of 12 learning areas. By moving through bookkeeping and accounting levels that build on each other, students successfully progress from Certified Junior Bookkeepers to Certified Financial Accountants. The courses within this category are:
Certified Junior Bookkeeper: National Certificate, NQF 3;
Certified Senior Bookkeeper: FET Certificate, NQF 3 + 4;
Certified Technical Financial Accountant: National Diploma, NQF 3+4+5; and
Certified Financial Accountant: National Diploma, NQF 3+4+5+6.
2. The Office Administration Certification Programmes
The Office Administration Certification Programmes also consist of 12 learning areas, and by moving through successive levels, students progress from Certified Office Administrators to Certified Office Managers. The courses in this category are:
Certified Senior Office Administrator: Higher Certificate, NQF 5; and
Certified Office Manager: Diploma, NQF 6.
3. The Business Financial Management Certification Programmes
The Business Financial Management Certification Programmes consist of three learning areas that build towards the following: Certified Small Business Financial Manager: National Certificate, NQF 4.
At College SA we know that most people are anxious about their studies. What are people anxious about? And, how do we help you and be by your side with your studies?
Concern 1: Many people think that they don’t know how to study.
SOLUTION: At College SA we believe that studying is a skill that ALL people are capable of mastering. Nobody is incapable of studying! We know that most of our students have not studied for many years (since their school days). We also know that most of our students come to us with untrue assumptions and bad habits when it comes to how to study.
Sommige besluite is klein besluite, byvoorbeeld: “Moet ek ‘n appel of ‘n piesang eet?” Sommige besluit is medium-grootte besluite, byvoorbeeld: “Ek is laat vir werk.
Besluite – Gevolge
Kyk of daar enige resultate is. Jy mag dalk ‘n baie groot verrassing kry!
Jy moet altyd uitvind of ‘n kollege geakkrediteer is voordat jy daar registreer. Terloops, College SA is ten volle geakkrediteer!
5. Gehalte diens

Do you want to sponsor all or part of a student’s study fees? We get many requests from needy students for help towards paying for their studies. Although we give a number of bursaries each year, the reality is that there are many thousands of people who deserve the chance to study, but who will never get that chance if someone does not decide to pay for their studies. If you want to help, please give us your details and the details of how you would like to help. We shall then allocate you donation to a specific student. Or if you want to sponsor a student you have already identified yourself, we can ensure that your money is used for that specific student.
We really want to know what is the one thing that prevents you from starting a course of study today. We are giving away a college t-shirt each week to someone who has given us their answers on three easy questions. We want the bare truth, and we appreciate all and any of your comments.
Please answer these three questions as honestly as you can: * What is the biggest worry that prevents you from starting your Studies at Home today? * Can you make one hour time in your day for studies? * How does the college help you with your studies?
Because you are already one of our students (or are thinking about becoming one), we don’t have to tell you just how important it is to improve your education and to get a qualification.

Tell me more about how Distance Learning or Home Study with College SA works if I live in Botswana?
With Home Study in Botswana you don’t have to attend classes and you don’t have to give up your job. With College SA we send you your study material and then we help you complete your programme of study by contacting you regularly. You study at home and you do assignments that you send to the college for marking and positive feedback on how you did and how you could sometimes do even better!
So with Home Study you can study as fast or as slow as you want. You don’t compete with other students and you can study in the safety of your own home. Some of our students find that they actually do better when they are not distracted by travelling, classes and other students!
Here you will find just a few things that make College SA so special:
We are the only College that allows you to stop paying as soon as you have finished studying. This means that if you finish
studying before you had expected to finish, then you can stop paying when you are done. For example, if you register for a course that takes approximately 12 months to complete, but you manage to complete the course in 10 months, then you only pay for the 10 months, and not the final 2 months.
With College SA, you can study in the comfort of your own home from Study Material specifically written to include the notes a lecturer would have given you. We are a Distance Learning College which means that you study WHERE and WHEN you want to.
With College SA it is very easy to request your next batch of Study Material. This means that you will not have unreasonable delays and you can get through your Programme quickly and efficiently
With College SA, you can take a break from your studies and from paying us if you need to – without any penalties. For example, if something unforeseen occurs in your life, and you are no longer able to afford your monthly College fees, you can request to take a Study Break, and during that time you won’t have to pay the College.
Our Study Material is motivational and easy to understand. This means that you will enjoy working through your Study Programme and that you will look forward to receiving your next batch of Study Material.
All of our Students have access to friendly and caring Tutors. This means that if you have academic questions or concerns, you have your very own Tutor to help you. You will never be stuck and on your own – our Tutors look forward to providing any assistance to our Students. Our Tutors are experts in their fields and they are there to help you with any questions.
Do you want to register with a College that strives to be the best College ever? Are you looking for a College that treats you like a special friend rather than just a customer? Do you want to take the very first step in getting the education you need?

If you use this address, we will immediately know that you are one of our students in Botswana!
If you know that you need to improve your education, you are probably also wondering about how you are going to pay for your studies. See below for the different payment options that College SA offers its students in Botswana:
The Pay-As-You-Study Option
Pay a Registration fee and then pay a monthly instalment every month that you study.
The Pay-in-Advance Option
With this payment option, you make only one payment to the College and save at least 25% on the fees. With this option, you can use your credit card or your RCS card to pay for your fees.
Study loan option – African Bank
If you are considering applying for a Study Loan to pay for your studies, then College SA can help you. We can help you to apply for a Study Loan with African Bank, a bank that:
Says YES more often
Provides same day approval
Has fixed repayments
Provides a flexible choice of repayment terms
The benefit of getting a Study Loan to pay for your fees is that with the Study Loan, you can pay for your fees using the Pay-In-Advance method which will entitle you to savings up to 25%. In addition, with a Study Loan, you will be able to re-pay your loan over a longer period of time and thus have lower monthly instalments to pay (compared to paying the College every month for the duration of your studies).
Getting your Employer to help pay for your Studies
We at College SA are always trying to assist the people that cross our path; we always try to help fulfil those dreams. You need to make use of all the resources at your disposal in order to make your dreams come true. One such resource is your employer – no matter if you work for a small business, a big corporate or a one-man show.
Why ask your employer?
Advantages for your employer should you study:
Your employer gets an employee who is actively interested in his or her company;
Knowledgeable employees work smarter and more cost-effectively;
Involved employees set a positive example to others;
Employers pay a Skills Levy anyway and thus they can claim it back.
Advantages for you if your company is paying:
You better yourself and increase your confidence;
Experience a feeling of gratification – your company pays!
Make work more enjoyable;
Experience a sense of achievement;
Broaden your horizon;
You are taking the lead – well done!!!
How to approach your employer
Read up on the policies regarding training;
Make inquiries with your company’s HR Department.
General Criteria from Companies regarding Training
Usually companies have more or less the same requirements:
The training should be relevant to your work situation;
Chat with your direct Manager about what kind of qualification would be appropriate for your job;
HINT: You might have noticed a need in your workplace which you might be able to address with some training. Thus you are showing interest in your work and displaying problem-solving skills.
Training should be through a reputable college
The qualification needs to be on a certain level – Ask your Course Expert for more information about this
Your employer needs to know the duration of the course; subjects and cost of the course - ask your Course Expert about these details
Sometimes there are deadlines with regards to submitting training requests – ask your HR Department about this;
Your employer will need a quote - Ask your Course Expert for more information about this
Motivate Your Request
Explain WHY you want to study – mention the advantages to your employer. Also, ask the Course Expert about the benefits of the course
Show that you have done the necessary research, for example, perhaps fill in the necessary information on this page of our website - http://www.collegesa.co.za/choosing-the-right-college-for-you.html - go to the bottom of the page and click the link to access the quick questionnaire and checklist.
Negotiate – ask what your employer wants in return. Perhaps you can work off the cost, or, pay the money back if they give you a loan. Perhaps ask them to give you a head-start by paying for the Registration Fee – this will also help you.
If you feel a bit like a fish out of water with all the educational terminology, ask your Course Expert to contact your employer to explain. After all, EDUCATION is what we do best!
Call the College TODAY and take that next step towards accomplishing your dreams and goals.
Everybody knows that education will better one’s opportunities to excel in life. You however, are one of the few people who are doing something with this knowledge! Congratulations for taking a positive step towards realising your dream!
We at College SA are always trying to assist the people that cross our path; we always try to help fulfil those dreams. In South Africa not all programmes have the same level of accreditation or recognition. Some programmes are offered by Colleges under their own name and these programmes might not have any recognition beyond recognition from the College offering the programme. Other programmes have full accreditation by a SETA and/or Umalusi and you should only do these programmes with Colleges which are accredited to offer such programmes.
With College SA you will find that programmes fall in one of three categories, depending on the recognition or accreditation the programmes and the College have.
