Course Details Summary:
What is Coaching Science?Coaching Science involves everything from actual training methods, biomechanics and nutrition to social skills, communication and sport psychology. Students would therefore not only learn more about the physical part of coaching, but also gain insight into ways in which to manage players or athletes within a social environment. A coach needs to have extensive knowledge about the human body and how it could be trained to produce the best results for that athlete or player, but it is also very important to understand how to motivate that individual or team to improve performance. The eta National Diploma: Coaching Science builds on the knowledge obtained in the eta National Certificate: Coaching Science, which means that at Diploma Level, the content is much more focused and goes into more detail than at Certificate Level. Closer attention is given to screening, training, assessment prosedures, exercise science and sport psychology. At first year level students can also choose to specialise in coaching two sports, one being a summer sport and the other a winter sport, while at second year level they are encouraged to pursue the sports they have chosen and then to enrol for either the sport federation coaching or officiating courses. The eta will gladly assist students in this regard, but please note that the cost of these courses is not included in the eta fees. Why should I study Coaching Science?Although it is very important for coaches to understand the biomechanics and physiology behind sports, being able to work with people is even more crucial. Not everyone is able to convey their thoughts and strategies in such a way that people are motivated and eager to apply it, so good coaches are always in demand. Whether you plan on coaching school sport teams or becoming a personal trainer at a gym, the principles behind good coaching remain the same.
