What is Fitness?

Although the term fitness is often used to refer to an individual’s physical health or efficiency and exercise then automatically comes to mind, in the broader sense it also implies proper nutrition, sufficient rest and emotional well-being. Personal trainers are therefore not only taught how to improve a person’s physical fitness by means of exercise and sporting activities, but also to address their nutritional habits, stress management and lifestyle choices. Students would learn how to design and implement exercise and dietary programmes, whilst at the same time motivating and mentoring individuals or groups to attain overall wellness. Thus, the job of a personal trainer is very people-orientated, while students have the opportunity to share their knowledge and expertise regarding exercise.

The eta National Diploma: Fitness – Exercise Specialist builds on the knowledge obtained in the eta National Certificate: Fitness, which means that at Diploma Level, the content is much more focused and goes into more detail than at Certificate Level. Closer attention is given to exercise programmes for people with specific needs, for example pregnant women, people with increased health risks such as obesity, and the different approach to training when working with children, youth and the elderly. At first year level, students will become qualified personal trainers and can also choose to specialise in spinning, Pilates mat and aerobics, while at second year level they focus on the different exercise programmes for clients with specific needs.

Why should I study Fitness?

In the modern era, people have become much more conscious of their health and wellness, and therefore the demand for qualified professionals to advise in this regard has grown immensely. Weight management is only a small part of total wellness, as other aspects such as stress, lifestyle and fitness also have a huge impact on a person’s wellness. By obtaining a qualification in fitness you would be able to provide sound advice that speaks to all of these aspects, and by targeting wellness as a whole, you would be able to help people achieve this objective. It is often assumed that personal trainers only work in gyms or fitness facilities, but the job opportunities are much wider. Students could, for instance, consider starting their own health practice, or apply for positions at private institutions that offer wellness programmes to their employees. For the first step towards becoming a qualified personal trainer and specialise in Special Populations, enrol for the eta National Diploma: Fitness – Exercise Specialist today!

Important Exam Information

Distance learning students follow a different exam procedure than full or part time students, as exams are not written in a classroom but rather online. How does this work? Well, whenever you are ready to write your exam, you simply send an email to the eta to request the paper. As soon as the eta receives your request, they will send you the exam paper electronically.

The eta is automatically notified once you have received the paper, so a timer would be activated. You must then complete the question paper and send it back within 12 hours of receipt. The question paper would only take you approximately 2 hours to complete, but we will allow you extra time to make sure that you filled in everything.

If you do not send the completed exam paper back within 12 hours after receiving it, the paper becomes invalid. You have then missed the deadline and would only have one other opportunity for reassessment.

PLEASE NOTE: You can only request papers between Monday and Friday and at all times you need to return it within 12 hours after receiving it. The eta also needs at least 24 hours written notice before they can send you the question paper, so you need to request it at least a day or two before you wish to write the exam.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are the Classes?
College SA is a home study college. This means that you do not have to go to class. You study at home, on the train, at work, after hours, on your lunch break, or over weekends! This means that you save a lot of costs that classroom students have to pay. Things like travel costs and accommodation are expensive for classroom students. Obviously it is also safer to study in your own home. It also means that you can work while you study, so you can earn a salary and get your qualification at the same time.
Do I get study material from the College?
College SA includes all your books, course items and study material with your course. So unlike other colleges, we shall not give you a list of books to buy. One you have paid for the course, you are entitled to recieve all the study material you need from us. In some cases there might be recommended reading materials which the college does not provide. But this will only be materials that are not essentials to passing your course.
What is the cost of the study material?
Your study material is included in your course fees, so the college does not charge you for study material.
