College SA offers two Short Courses in the field of Tax Training:
  1. Payroll and Monthly SARS Returns
  2. Income Tax Returns

Both of these two Short Courses are compulsory requirements for students wishing to complete the Accounting Certification Programme as offered in conjunction with our Academic Partner, the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers (ICB). The Accounting Certification Programme is the training platform for the following Qualifications:


(1) Payroll and Monthly SARS Returns

Payroll and Monthly SARS Returns is a Short Course that forms part of our Junior Bookkeeping Qualification. The Junior Bookkeeping Qualification is offered in conjunction with our Academic Partner, the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers (ICB).


What does this Short Course in the field of Tax Training offer you?

The following are just some of the modules that are covered in Payroll and Monthly SARS Returns:

  • Recording Business Financial Transactions
  • VAT Calculations and Returns
  • Basic Conditions of Employment
  • Statutory Registrations
  • Complete PAYE Documents
  • Accounting for Payroll
  • Ethics and the Registered  Tax Practitioner

Completion of the Payroll and Monthly SARS Returns Short Course is recommended if you are considering a career as a Payroll Clerk.


What is a Payroll Clerk?


Job Purpose:

To efficiently assist in the administration of a company’s Payroll.

Tasks:

  1. PAYE Calculation and Interpretation of related Tax laws;
  2. Salary Structuring and Calculations;
  3. UIF Submissions and Issuing of UI19 Forms;
  4. Payroll Input and Processing;
  5. Reconciliation of Payroll Input;
  6. Printing and Distribution of Payslips;
  7. Dealing with Payroll Queries and Reports;
  8. Skills Levy Payments;
  9. Reconciliation of Tax at Year-end;
  10. Printing IRP5 Forms and Submitting them to SARS;
  11. Ad-hoc  Payroll and HR Reporting,
  12. General HR Assistance and Ad-hoc HR Tasks.

Required Personality Traits:

  1. High degree of confidentiality;
  2. Ability to meet deadlines and to work under pressure;
  3. Must have a desire to add value to the company;
  4. Attention to detail and accuracy are essential;
  5. Ability to build and maintain interpersonal relationships;
  6. Ability to deal with queries effectively;
  7. Ability to set up systems and develop procedures.

(2) Income Tax Returns


Income Tax Returns is a Short Course that forms part of our Technical Financial Accountant Qualification The Technical Financial Accountant Qualification is offered in conjunction with our Academic Partner, the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers (ICB).

  • SARS and the Tax Practitioner.
Completion of the Income Tax Returns Short Course is recommended if you are considering a career as an Accounting Technician or as a Certified Tax Technician.

What is an Accounting Technician?

An Accounting Technician needs to possess the following skills and expertise:

  1. The ability to Operate with Management in an Accounting Environment;
  2. Comprehensive knowledge of Bookkeeping, Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, Cost Accounting, Personal and Business Taxation, Business Law and Accounting Control;
  3. Thorough knowledge of Personal and Business Taxation and of the Income Tax Act;
  4. The ability to Calculate Taxable Income for both Individuals and Businesses;
  5. The skills for the Completion of Income Tax Returns;
  6. The ability to provide Advice to Clients and be current on South African Income Tax Calculation and Collection;
  7. Working knowledge of Business Law and Accounting Control – the Audit Function – including basic Contract and Insurance Law, Insolvency Law, Internal and Computer Auditing.

What is a Certified Tax Technician (CTT)?

A Certified Tax Technician has status as a member of the South African Institute of Tax Practitioners. He or she will have a Tax Practitioner’s Number which will allow him or her to complete monthly and annual SARS returns on behalf of a client.

A Certified Tax Technician needs to possess the following skills and expertise:

  1. Thorough knowledge of Personal and Business Taxation;
  2. Thorough Knowledge of the Income Tax Act;
  3. The ability to Calculate Taxable Income for both Individuals and Businesses;
  4. The skills for the Completion of Income Tax Returns;
  5. The ability to provide Advice to Clients and be current on South African Income Tax Calculation and collection.
