WHAT IS ARCHITECTURAL DRAUGHTING

Architecture can be apparently defined as the art of designing of buildings. However, it has a much wider scope and meaning. The process of making a building plan includes the usage of architectural draughting and design. While making a plan for a building the architect, has to take many things into consideration. The first that is considered is the size and purpose of the structure. While making a basic design, the mathematical as well as the scientific theories are put to use. Laws of physics related to gravity are also studied and considered to determine, if the structure of the proposed dimensions would or wouldn't stand against the pull of gravitation.

Architectural draughting and designing techniques are further used to determine the mass and space of the entire structure. The plan that is drawn up by the draughtsperson is usually in the ratio of the actual structure. For example, many building plans are made in the ration 1:10. The plan gives the civil engineer a very good idea about the structure who actually executes the process of construction.

Some of the greatest examples of structures that were built of after careful architectural draughting and designing, are the pyramids of Egypt and Colosseum at Rome. The architects of these mega structures not only made plans on paper, but also resorted to making a table-sized prototypes of the actual buildings. The table-sized prototypes are made even today, and are made to determine the break strength of the structure. The prototype of a building basically indicate durability, utility and beauty of the proposed plan.

In the modern era, considering the current space problems, the architectural design and draughting is often used to determine the volume of the building, display its texture and overall get up. It is also used to ensure if the current design of the building blends with the landscape or not. This process includes the use of effects like light, shadow, colors of the building and the program in general.

Modern architects have also developed many techniques which determine the estimated cost of the whole structure. This cost can be calculated while the plan of the building is in its draughting stage. In architectural draughting and design, this process is often termed as costing.

Architectural design and draughting also include concepts like town planning, urban design and landscaping. These concepts are used to make the building more compact and beautiful. These concepts are also used to provide the building with maximum possible facilities. Now-a-days, an independent branch of architectural draughting and design known as, interior designing is also emerging. This branch concentrates in making the interior of the building, as beautiful and as comfortable as possible.

WHY SHOULD I STUDY ARCHITECTURAL DRAUGHTING

If you are interested in transforming your ideas into working and precise drawings that best represent the intentions of what you want to build either for yourself or for someone else you should seriously consider studying architectural draughting.

By studying architectural draughting you can develop develop a design idea into a coherent proposal, to communicate ideas and concepts, to convince clients of the merits of a design, to enable a building contractor to construct it, as a record of the completed work, and to make a record of a building that already exists.
