WHAT DOES ENGLISH LANGUAGE SKILLS ENTAIL?

Communication is the key to a successful career! Proper language skills not only enhance your job opportunities, but certainly distinguish you from other applicants whose literary skills are not as developed. English has become the main language of communication – also referred to as lingua franca – in South Africa, so if you haven’t mastered it yet, your chances of moving forward in the corporate world really seem slim.

The English Language Skills course has been designed especially for those people for whom English has not been learnt as a first language. The content has been developed so as to give you the confidence to effectively communicate in both spoken and written English, so this course would be beneficial to any job imaginable!

COURSE STRUCTURE SUMMARY

  • We start with Tactics for Winning – this gives orientation and motivation for learners.
  • Then each lesson consists of an audio CD and worksheets which works as follows:
  • The CD runs for about 20-30 minutes, but as it progresses you will be asked by the tutor to shut it off occasionally and refer to your worksheets.
  • It is this combination of explanation by audio CD plus exercises in your worksheets that makes progress so easy.
  • You should be able to complete the full lesson in about 2 hours, after which a special exercise in pronunciation is undertaken.
  • This is so that by the end of the course each student should not only be speaking English well, but also be using correct pronunciation.

ASSESSMENT AND AWARD

Once you have successfully completed the course, you will be awarded a Certificate in Speaking and Writing English.

WHY SHOULD I STUDY ENGLISH LANGUAGE SKILLS?

The English Language Skills Course is specifically designed for students who did not learn English as a first language and need to pay attention to the basics of language study. The study material consists of audio CDs and worksheets, so students would receive practice in both spoken and written English. Correct pronunciation is a big feature of this course, as students would be able to follow the spoken text in their workbooks. In other words, by hearing how the words they are reading actually sound, their grasp of and confidence in English would develop immensely.

This course is perfect for anyone who is slightly unsure of their ability to read, write and speak English or even if you just want to refresh your language skills in general.

Where are the Classes?
College SA is a home study college. This means that you do not have to go to class. You study at home, on the train, at work, after hours, on your lunch break, or over weekends! This means that you save a lot of costs that classroom students have to pay. Things like travel costs and accommodation are expensive for classroom students. But this will only be materials that are not essentials to passing your course.
What is the cost of the study material?
Your study material is included in your course fees, so the college does not charge you for study material.
