The word “academy” is a very broad term. An academy is like any other place where you can study. It’s kind of like a school, institute or college. You get specialist academies like military academies or academies of music and arts, for example. These are all academies that only focus on the one thing, like music. They are usually privately owned and really expensive. Other academies are more general and not expensive at all, although they are still mostly private. You can get a general academy for primary school, high school and for study after school. Some general academies also give courses that you can take if did not finish school so that you can still get a good education.
Since an academy is basically like a school or college, you can probably find any course at an academy. At the specialist academies, you can take courses in their chosen field. If you study at a military academy, you will learn everything there is to know about being a soldier. You can learn about every branch of the military like the infantry, the air force and the navy. At a music academy you will be able to take courses in any instrument you choose, or in composing or music conducting. At a general academy you can take business courses, secretarial courses, science courses, courses in cooking and catering, etc. Most of these courses are certificate or diploma courses.
