Exam Tips:
Summary Notes
Don’t try to make summary notes exactly as the words are written in the textbook. Make notes that say the same thing in different words. So if you can say something in a different way, it means that you understand what you are reading.

Highlighting important information
It’s OK to highlight a sentence or two in a textbook to make it stand out as really important, but don’t highlight the whole book! It will make no difference in the long run, and it just wastes your pretty coloured highlighters. Rather than just reading over your highlighted information over and over again, make a diagram of the information. Make the information active so it can get stuck in your mind.

Study Notes and Practise Exams
Rewriting your notes is a good first step in studying, but don’t make it your only step! Once you rewrote your notes, you should create a practise exam from them, or a flow chart . You can also ask for a friend’s notes, and create a practise exam from that. Then you both have two exams to practice with.

Study with your Senses
The more of your senses involved in your learning, the better you will remember what you have learnt. So you can use your eyes to read, you can read out loudl (which then also get your mouth and ears involved) and you can have someone ask you questions and then write down the answers or answer out loud.
Take a Break
Remember to take break every now and then. Even if you can study for hours on end, you need to take a break now and then to get some exercise or just some fresh air. It does wonders to a brain that feels tired.

Your Study Area
Create a study area that suits your needs, but that is your ONLY study area. That way when you leave your desk, you really take a break from the entire study area. Don’t just sit in the same spot doing something else. Go somewhere else entirely.

Set yourself goals
Set yourself attainable goals – don’t try to study a whole textbook in one session! If you make your goals more attainable, you are more likely to reach them. But don’t think that you can get away with making your goals too easy!

Schedule
Draw up a schedule, and keep to it.

Old Exam Papers
Work through old exam papers.

Study Exercises
Do study exercises and examples.

With these tips you are a long way to studying successfully. Now you can just get in there and make it happen!
