FASSET has decided that Providers (Colleges) who have been accredited for FASSET qualifications will not be listed on FASSET’s website.

What is an FET College?
FET (Further Education and Training)is the education and training provided at NQF levels 2, 3 and 4 (note that NQF4 is the same academic level as Grade 12), including career-oriented education and the training offered in technical colleges, community colleges and private colleges. Private institutions offering FET programmes must register with the Department of Education in accordance with the Further Education and Training Act, 1998 (Act No 98 of 1998).
Further Education and Training (FET) colleges strive to provide high-quality education and training to help you equip yourself with the qualifications and skills you need to start out on a chosen career path. You will gain invaluable life skills to meet the many challenges of the working world with more than just a qualification on paper. Umalusi
Umalusi is a statutory organization which sets and monitors standards for general and further education and training (GET and FET) in South Africa with the purpose of continually enhancing the quality of education and training.
They have five key functions:
- Evaluating qualifications and curricula to ensure that they are of the expected standard.
- Moderating assessment to ensure that it is fair, valid and reliable.
- Conducting research to ensure educational quality.
- Accrediting educational and assessment providers.
- Certifying learner attainments.

What is a SETA?
SETA stands for a Sector Education and Training Authority. Their goal is to develop and implement a sector specific skills plan, registering and promoting learnerships and applying to the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) for accreditation as an Education and Training Quality Assurance Body (ETQA) for qualifications in its sector.
Twenty-five SETA’s were established by the former Minister of Labour, Mr. Madladlana, on the 20th of March 2000. It is the responsibility of the Minister of Labour to ensure that there is a SETA representing each sector within the job market. In addition, the Minister must establish the training needs of employers and employees and ensure that similar material, processes and technologies are used to access the different SETA’s.

What is FASSET?
Fasset is the Sector Education and Training Authority (Seta) for Finance, Accounting, Management Consulting and other Financial Services. Fasset’s mission includes the following:
- To improve the competence of employees and potential employees, thereby enhancing productivity in the sector
- To increase the level of investment in education and training in this sector and to optimise the return of this investment
- To encourage employers and employees to adopt a culture of life-long learning
- To ensure the quality of training and education in the sector and to support the development of standards in line with the NQF and to actively promote these standards
- To expand the provision of education and training in the sector through sound partnerships with public and private providers of education and training
- To enhance co-operation between the public and private sectors
- To support the objectives of the Employment Equity Act of 1998
- To enhance access to learning opportunities in the sector
- To position the sector as the 'sector of career choice' for prospective learners and new entrants into the labour market.

SAQA and the NQF
The South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) is a body of 29 members appointed by the Ministers of Education and Labour. These members represent the various stakeholders, for example, business, non-government organisations (NGOs), unions as well as Education, Training and Development providers
SAQA is responsible for registering qualifications and standards on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF), and, at the same time, SAQA ensures that learners reach these qualifications and standards. The National Qualification Framework is based on a credit system for achieving learning outcomes. The NQF consists of 8 levels which are divided into 3 bands, namely: the General Education and Training (GET), the Further Education and Training (FET) and then the Higher Education and Training (HET).

The South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA), is responsible for:
- Overseeing the development of the NQF, by formulating and publishing policies and criteria for the registration of bodies responsible for establishing education and training standards or qualifications and for the accreditation of bodies responsible for monitoring and auditing achievements in terms of such standards and qualifications; and
- Overseeing the implementation of the NQF by ensuring the registration, accreditation and assignment of functions to the bodies referred to above, as well as the registration of national standards and qualifications on the framework. It must also take steps to ensure that provisions for accreditation are complied with and where appropriate, that registered standards and qualifications are internationally comparable.
