| The Different Categories of Programmes we offer |
|
In South Africa not all programmes have the same level of accreditation or recognition. Some programmes are offered by Colleges under their own name and these programmes might not have any recognition beyond recognition from the College offering the programme. Other programmes have full accreditation by a SETA and/or Umalusi and you should only do these programmes with Colleges which are accredited to offer such programmes. With College SA you will find that programmes fall in one of three categories, depending on the recognition or accreditation the programmes and the College have. National QualificationsThese programmes are credit bearing qualifications registered with SAQA on the NQF. Such programmes can only be offered by Colleges that are accredited to offer these programmes. So for National Qualifications you must make sure your college is accredited and that the programme is accredited. When you complete a National Qualification you get proof of your studies from the accrediting body (usually a SETA, or Umalusi), and your results are loaded on the NLRD (National Learner Record Database). A national qualification is often the best way to gain access to further and higher level qualifications. College SA in some cases partner with other accredited training providers to be able to offer you national qualifications. Institute ProgrammesThese programmes are examined (assessed) and Certified by an Institute. The Institute can be internationally or locally recognised. With Institute programmes College SA will offer the study support, but we will refer you to the Institute for the exam and the Certification. These programmes are often (but not always) accredited programmes; however the responsibility for accreditation is with the Institute. Institute programmes are often the best way to get recognised and qualified for a specific formal job. For Institute Programmes you must make sure your college is approved by the relevant Institute to offer its programmes. College ProgrammesThese programmes are assessed and Certified by College SA. These are often short courses, or non-accredited courses; usually in the creative or own-business fields of study. These programmes are usually aimed at students wanting to improve their knowledge and skills in a specific field, but who do not want the hassle, cost or stress of formal examinations. As such, these programmes are often non-accredited programmes. College programmes are usually the best and quickest way to get the skills you need.
